Thanks for this post, I absolutely agree.

To respond to the commenters:

-a great way to get your first gig is to apply to something simple, for which you are perhaps even over-qualified, offer a very competitive rate, send a professional cover letter, and you have a great shot. Complete that project well, and you'll get good feedback and evidence of previous work. From there, you can apply to a better job, for a better rate, continue to do good work and build up your reputation, and you can keep on climbing.

I began with a $5/hr data entry job, and 6 months later I'm making $20/hr as a project manager.

Other keys to success:
-take and master as many relevant odesk skill tests as possible
-use proper English in your profile, cover letter, and all correspondence with employers. This makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE. Judging from the type-os in these comments, I'm guessing you can learn from this.

hi,
It's a really great help following this post.
I have passed a lot of tests on odesk with good percentage.

But every time, either i don't got attention for an interview and just ignored after interview.

I think there's some mistake with my cover letter. Please specify me what should a B.tech fresher in Electronics and Communication can mention n cover letter. And what type of jobs are available for me.

Thanks

hi,

It is a really nice and motivational post.
I am an oDesk user for 15 days now, I am not getting any projects. I wrote and re-wrote my profile and cover letters many times. Can you please suggest what else i can do to get my first job on oDesk.

What I would be lacking is main question here.

I don't have any oDesk history, How can I attract buyers so that they pay attention to my application and think less about oDesk history and feedback.

It would be very helpful for me..

Thanks
